I discovered this picture last night... it's from the Summer of 1985 when I was hired by a band on wednesday.... so that on saturday we could open for Marie Osmond at the county fair.

Don't laugh at the shorts... it was like 90+ degrees and the rest of the band wore some kind of hawaiian print shirts.... that was the best one I could find that didn't look COMPLETELY dorky... only partially dorky.

It was a Carvin DC125 I built from a kit. Body is a solid piece of flamed maple with a laccquer finish, ebony fingerboard, and arrow-head shaped headstock.

I also set it up with an EMG 81 humbucker, single volume, active boost switch, and a fine tuning Schaller bridge.

I actually still have most of that guitar.... it just took alot of "road abuse" in college and has been painted at least 6 different colors in the last 20 years.

And for the record, it wasn't painted on purpose.

I tried to put a translucent blue finish on it.... but it was too cold in the spray booth and some of the finish cracked really weird. When I sanded it down, some of the blue dye had soaked all the way into the maple.

I got pissed and painted it flourescent red.

Then a year later I painted it black.... then yellow... then silver... a few more colors and then sanded it down so it looked like a Vernon Reid color swirl.

I wish it was still flamed maple.

I like that a lot!
I'm thinking about making my own wood finish axe. Based on an Epiphone Korina Explorer probably. I)'ll post a bit about it on the guitar board you mentioned yesterday

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's not that far off.

They were playing these cheesy "If Buffet sang the Eagles" kinds of things.... I kept creeping further and further toward the edge of the stage "Kill me now..... "
